Big Announcement...The Everygirl launching Feb 2012!

I am so excited to announce the upcoming launch of The Everygirl, the newest online resource helping shape creative, career-driven women in their twenties and thirties.

I have spent the past four months working on The Everygirl with my good friend and co-founder Alaina Kaczmarski of Live Creating Yourself. There have been endless late night meetings and we have spent our weekends photographing features [she styles, I shoot]. So now you know why we have been spending so much time together and what we were up to in New York.

The Everygirl will ask the questions no one else asks. So whether it's an interview with the girl who started her own business, the girl who packed up and moved across the country looking to experience something new or the girl who pieced together her wardrobe without going into debt we'll look at the steps they took to make it happen and what advice they have for others looking to do something similar.

You can also expect to find features on decor, finance, career, entertaining and more! We are working with business consultants, financial advisors and stylists to bring you stories that are inspiring, accessible and budget friendly. After all, this site is for you --the everygirl.

Since you may be wondering what The Everygirl is, I just want to clarify that it is not an online magazine. While we love online magazines, we realized that this was not the ideal platform for the content that we will be sharing with our readers. Being the super creative and fancy graphic designers that we are, we came up with something new for you.

I have wanted to do this for well over a year, so to see it come together and to be able to share this with all of you is a dream come true! The support we have received so far has been wonderful and I am so thankful that Alaina agreed to join me on this journey. I could not have done this with anyone else.

A bedroom should be a sanctuary. I am in the process of redoing my bedroom and am excited to see the progress coming along. I have an upholstered headboard that I have sort of reupholstered myself. I bought some fabric and wrapped it around the headboard. I need to clean it up a little bit.

I sold my dresser and moved the dresser from my living room to my bedroom. This dresser started in my entry, moved to my living room and is now in my bedroom. I love having it in there. I also purchased a beautiful vintage bar cart at the Randolph Street Market.

In a perfect world, I would love to purchase a tufted or nail head {or a tufted + nail head} upholstered headboard. But -- I am determined to make this one work.

I have always loved upholstered beds. I think they are so lovely, clean and chic. What do you think? I currently have an upholstered headboard but think a complete bed would be lovely. While I have always had a dust ruffle, it might be nice to mix things up.

And speaking of beds, do you have a guest room? If not, where do your guests sleep? My sofa is far too small for anyone to sleep on. I think purchasing something like this would be great. But in my tiny apartment, I am not sure I'd have a place to put it.

What kind of bed to you have? Is there a bed that you really love right now?

I am so happy with how these photos turned out and couldn't wait to share them with you! This was such a fun shoot! I ended up spending an extra hour and a half with them.

They were engaged at the John Hancock. That's the big tower in the distance.

It's so fun taking photos of two people celebrating their love and the lifelong journey they are about to take together. Loved every single moment.

It's been a crazy few weeks! I am finally back in Chicago and have not had a chance to load the new site design. My sister will be in town this week, so please pardon the current mess. I threw this new little banner up for now -- but a new look is coming soon. It has been ready to go for a while now. I have just been busy with blogs, some new pre-mades (which I am waiting to debut)...so stay tuned!

Last week I noticed that a spot on my forehead had gotten a little darker. I called my dermatologist the following day to have it checked out. Turns out it was just a sun spot. She froze it off -- no big deal. I asked her to check a mole on my neck and she said it was fine. I suggested that she check my back and when I lifted up my shirt she saw a mole that she wanted to remove.

A reader emailed me to ask if I had any suggestions for a duvet cover for her dorm room. Since I love a project I offered to put a little inspiration board together. I wish I had the knowledge, skills & talent to do this all day.

It's always so fun putting together a new look for a room. I love switching out accessories to change up the look of a room. When comes to furniture -- you need something that will last. Last week I met some lovely Chicago bloggers at Rockit in River North for drinks & appetizers. Rockit is one of my favorite places in Chicago. Downstairs you will find a fantastic restaurant & upstairs -- a lively bar with pool tables {fun}!

A special thank you to the people at Rockit! The event went so well thanks to the wonderful venue! I would not hesitate to host another event at Rockit. Great drinks, fabulous atmosphere & delicious food. Mix that with a group of fabulous bloggers and it's a recipe for a wonderful night.

Spring is in the air and it's time to play! It's been a long and cold winter. Yes, it's been spring the past month but temps in Chicago have been pretty low. I cannot wait to get outside & know that all the little ones cannot wait to play!

I wanted to update all of you on the last week. I had to fly to LA to say goodbye to my sweet little kitty, Dexter. He had FIP, which is a fatal virus & there was absolutely nothing we could do. I have been so sad all week and miss him so, so much. He was the sweetest & most loving little guy.

Shooting my first EVENT.

My first photo shoot took place in Lincoln Park last November. I had never directed anyone before & was worried I wouldn't know what to do. When you have a gorgeous couple + cute dogs + beautiful street in Lincoln Park, it is only natural that you would end up with beautiful photographs. And it turns out that I am a natural at telling people what to do. Who knew? Here are two of my favorites from that shoot.

Last weekend, I shot my first event & wanted to share a few photos with you. This was a very different experience, and I really enjoyed it! Cute kids + cupcake & chef hat decorating. Can't beat that.

Does anyone have any fun plans this weekend?

Going to dinner with friends tonight & tomorrow.

But I want to stay in and do nothing all day on Sat or Sunday.

And I need to do some work on my scrapbook line.

I am so sorry that I have not yet announced the winner of my giveaway. I ended up getting sick with the flu this week which left me with a 103 degree fever! Not fun. Some of you may know that on top of this design blog, I have a personal blog - Breakfast at Toast. On occasion, I will take posts from that blog and share them here as well {for anyone who doesn't check that one}. Because I spent years dreaming in a place with seasons, this is one of those posts. Enjoy!

Snowflakes began to fall as I went to sleep on Monday night & on Tuesday morning, I woke up to a very snowy Chicago. I grabbed my camera when I took the pup out to capture him in his layers & snow boots. He already needs to lose 2 lbs but when he wears his fleece and coat he looks so fat. It's the layers!

Buddy has plans to lose 2 lbs come spring.
Once it warms up we will be going on lots of long walks.

These trees remind me of Christmas.

My 2nd attempt at project 365.

Happy New Year! I have decided to have another go at project 365. If you are doing 365 please leave a link to your blog so I can see your photos! I would also love to know what your plan is. Are you posting on your blog or a 365 blog? Are you going to order a photo book at the end of the year? And the big question. Have you done 365 before?

After the epic fail of project 365 in 2010, I plan to post my photos on my personal blog {and maybe here as well} instead of on a 365 blog that no one reads. I am feeling pretty inspired but felt that way last year as well so let's hope I can keep it up.

It is my plan to do one post each week, I figured that the first day of the year deserved its own post. Here is my photo from Jan 1, 2011.

My mom gave me this ornament from Burberry 7 or 8 years ago. It is one of my favorites! I am taking my tree down tomorrow, so thought I would capture this last look at Christmas before it went away.

The snow has begun to fall and suddenly we have no choice but to get the heating on, we know you’ve been trying to hold out as long as possible but when its blowing a blizzard outside it’s time to cave in.
It’s simply down to that snuggly central heating zapping all the moisture out of our hair and there are a few easy tips to follow to help combat winter hair fatigue.

Keep up your trims – we know it’s cold out there and any moment not spent at work/school/university/the pub you would prefer to spend at home but it IS important to keep up with regular hair trims just to keep your hair in tiptop condition. Uncut split ends are a dead give-away that your hair is looking tired and we admit that we are the first to leave our lengths un-chopped when we are feeling lazy but trust us we always regret it! Get those ends trimmed regularly and you will never suffer the dreaded scarecrow look.

DEEP CONDITION! Oh we can’t stress this enough, it is just second nature to shampoo and condition every day or every other day, whatever you prefer, or even wash your face or shave….! But how many people ACTUALLY deep condition weekly without fail? This is something you should apply all year round. The effect of the winter is just as bad as the effect of summer; heat means you should hydrate.
Another thing - protect! We have swapped our volumizing mousse/straightening serum/sea salt spray for what we believe is the only thing you should be applying to your hair before drying – a heat protection leave in conditioner spray, a spray designed specifically to condition all day long against the elements and our usual daily styling routine. Therefore, if you use straighteners make sure you use heat protection products.

An extra tip: indulge yourself in a little scalp massage when applying your conditioner and get those natural oils flowing!

Find the right jeans shape for you.

At Very.co.uk they have a fantastic range of jeans in their G-star section. Skinny jeans, boyfriend jeans and boot cut jeans are just a few examples. But what is the best style and shape for you?
Skinny jeans are more suitable for people who are slim or have an hourglass figure. These body shapes will be complemented by the extension of your already long legs. However, that doesn’t mean that apple shaped, pear shaped and round shaped women should try and avoid them. If you do find a pair that looks good, then do not hesitate to buy them, but perhaps wear them with heels to give you a bit of length.

Flared jeans are generally a good look for most body shapes. Apple shaped women will find that a slight flare will balance out their larger top half, making you look less top heavy. The same applies for rounder shapes, but avoid really large flares as this could make you look even rounder. Perhaps bootcut is the best option for this body shape. Finally Pear shapes looks good with most styles, so the flare is yet again a safe option.

Straight-legged jeans often get confused with skinny jeans, but they are quite different. Straight-legged jeans are less figure hugging than skinny jeans and do not go in at the bottom. They are exactly what they say on the tin; straight up and straight and down. This style of jeans should be avoided by pear shaped women but should be embraced by fuller body shapes.

Over the next few weeks, I want to highlight a few organizations that are near and dear to my heart. The first one is New Day Foster Home. Over the next week I will donate 20% of all deposits and pre-made template orders to NDFH.

Due to limited resources, many government orphanages in China can’t afford to purchase formula powder. Instead, babies are given substitutes like sugar water or rice powder to ease their hunger pains. These substitutes do not provide the nutrition a child needs, and the result is malnourishment, sickness, and underdevelopment.

But this doesn't have to be their reality! We can help ensure these babies aren't hungry.

New Day Foster Home provides formula to children under one who live in four different Chinese government orphanages, ensuring that these babies get the healthy start they need. In early 2009, enrollment in the formula project rapidly increased and over the last year, quality formula has grown more expensive in China. Believing that every child deserves a full tummy, NDFH hasn’t turned away any babies from the project. But, they need our help to purchase the formula.

On their website, you can learn more about New Day Foster Home’s formula project, and you can even sign up to sponsor formula for one child for one year.

My friend, Carrie works at New Day Foster Home in a small village outside of Beijing, China. After living for nearly 2 years in a village where most residents don't even have indoor plumbing, Carrie and her husband began understanding that many of the social problems they saw were fundamentally rooted in poverty. In November 2009 launched Scarlet Threads, a sewing cooperative in their village seeking to empower rural women through employment.

When you purchase a Scarlet Threads product, you become intricately connected to a woman half a world away. You give her the chance to provide for her family in a safe and dignified way, and you make Scarlet Thread's vision a reality.

Hi everyone! Happy Monday. Just a quick note that I will be traveling to Los Angeles today to spend the week with my family & will return to Chicago on the 29th. I do have my laptop with me and plan to get some work done, but my response time and schedule will be a little delayed. I will be back to my regular hours on December 1st.

Meet Kim & Brandon. A gorgeous couple with two sweet little dogs. My friend Anne is styling Kim's NY wedding. It is going to be stunning! I met Kim at Anne's birthday dinner and after seeing a photo of my dog, Kim asked if I would take her holiday card photos. I was incredibly honored (and a little nervous) since I have never done this before. I told her that I would love to give it a try.

In typical Danielle fashion, I threw myself in head first. Not only did I shoot Kim & Brandon, but I booked a family photo shoot right after this one. These are some of my favorites from today's photo shoot. I will share the photos from shoot #2 in another post.
